Philadelphia Flower Show
with Longwood Gardens & Winterthur Museum March 1 - 4, 2008 The itinerary below is for our 2008 tour, and we are currently working on our 2009 trip. Escape the winter blahs for a long weekend getaway to the City of Brotherly Love and the country’s best-attended flower and garden show. While in Philadelphia we will take the opportunity to visit some of America’s most important horticultural showplaces, enjoy an escorted city tour, and of course, the main event, the famous Philadelphia Flower Show. A brief itinerary of the tour follows. Saturday, March 1 ~ Arrive Philadelphia Depart your city and arrive in Philadelphia early afternoon and meet your tour escort who will be with you your entire tour. Check into the perfectly located Hilton Garden Inn and have some free time before a nice glass of wine and welcome dinner with your fellow Huron Valley Travelers. D Sunday, March 2 ~ Longwood Gardens & Winterthur Museum Today we visit Delaware’s Brandywine Valley, home of renowned museums made famous by the legacy of the Wyeths and DuPonts. Our first stop will be the much-admired Longwood Gardens, regarded as one of the world’s greatest gardens. Once the private estate of Pierre S. DuPont, strolling through the four acres of indoor conservatories, you will enjoy the seasonal floral displays and lush tropical plants that grow year-round. Afterward, we’ll visit Winterthur Museum and Gardens, (with both an inside and outside visit) that was once the home of Henry Francis DuPont. Today it is a nine-story building filled with more than 71,000 American decorative art objects. This evening is free to enjoy the city as you please. Monday, March 3 ~ The Philadelphia Flower Show Just a short walk away (across the street!) is the Philadelphia Flower Show, and you have the entire day to enjoy all that this well-respected Show has to offer. You will quickly understand why this is America's premier flower event, with some even daring to say that it is better than England's Chelsea Flower Show (we don't agree). Enjoy all the special displays, the fabulous market place and feel free to leave and return as often as you want since our hotel is right across the street. Tuesday, March 4 ~ City Tour and Depart We begin today with an enjoyable walking tour of the historical district of Philadelphia including stops at the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, and a quick stop at the famous steps from the movie 'Rocky.' Afterwards we will enjoy a very special farewell lunch at the historic City Tavern restaurant. Our motorcoach returns us to the airport where we depart for evening flight home with new friends and wonderful memories from another fabulous Huron Valley Travel excursion.
