Crufts
The greatest dog show in the world!

March 3 - 11, 2008

The itinerary below is for our 2008 tour, and we are currently working on our 2009 trip. To receive the 2009 brochure as soon as it is completed, fill out the request form below. Hope to see you with us!

Why not attend the UK’s oldest and greatest dog show? Huron Valley Travel knows England inside and out organized dozens of trips to Wimbledon, the Chelsea Flower Show, and Blackpool’s Ballroom Festival. This year in New York on our 5th annual tour to the Westminster Dog Show, travelers suggested we organize a package to England for what is claimed as “ the greatest dog show in the world!”

Crufts, founded in 1891, attracts exhibitors from all over Europe, as well as more than 25,000 dogs and 153,000 visitors making it officially the largest canine event on the planet. Huron Valley Travel has used its contacts and considerable expertise to offer this remarkably low-priced complete travel package to the first 25 interested dog lovers.

This will be our first trip to Crufts and since this is our pioneer trip we still have some details to work out and must keep the group small. The reward is that you’ll enjoy the best pricing we will ever offer for this trip. Read on for the complete day-to-day itinerary.

Monday, March 3 ~ Depart the U.S. from Chicago on Aer Lingus. If you like we can help you arrange airfare from your preferred departure city. D, B

Tuesday, March 4 ~ Arrive Birmingham, England and travel by private deluxe motorcoach to your perfectly located hotel, the Crowne Plaza NEC. Enjoy some free time this afternoon to explore or relax, and join your fellow travelers in the hotel dining room this evening for a lovely welcome dinner. D

Wednesday, March 5 ~ After our included English breakfast we will meet for a short ‘lecture’ on how best to see Crufts. Then we’ll enjoy a locally guided city tour highlighting all the best sights of Birmingham and afterward we’ll enjoy a traditional pub lunch together. B, L

Thursday, March 6 ~ Today the 105th Crufts Dog Show begins with the Toy and Utility group and you have pre-reserved admission tickets for full access for all four days of the show. Explore the huge NEC arena with a host of fast and furious competitions and displays throughout the show. There are more than 190 different breeds of pedigree dog to get better acquainted with in the Discover Dogs section, as well as more than 500 trade stands are packed with everything for dogs and their owners.

The show is just steps from your hotel so you can come and go as you please. If you prefer not to walk, the hotel has a complimentary shuttle that you may use to get to and from the show. We’ll travel together on this morning so we can register you at the special overseas visitor’s hospitality lounge and get all the information the show has to offer. B

Friday, March 7 – Sunday, March 9 ~ Enjoy three more full days of canine fun, with Gundog groups on Friday, Working & Pastoral groups on Saturday and Terrier & Hound groups on Sunday. Finishing with reserved seats for Best in Show at 8:30pm on Sunday night. B

Monday, March 10 ~ Today is a full free day to enjoy all that Birmingham has to offer, or join our optional day trip to visit historic Warwick castle and the city of Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare. Built in 914 AD, Warwick castle was constructed when Alfred the Great ordered his daughter Ethelfleda to build a “burh” or an earthen rampart to protect the small hilltop settlement of Warwick from Danish invaders. Today it is a popular tourist destination and combines fascinating castle ruins, largely of the fourteenth century with one of the finest great houses in England.

Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, is small in size but large in history and interest. Set in the beautiful rural Warwickshire countryside, on the banks of the river Avon, it is one of the favorite tourist destinations in the UK. Explore the town, walk along the river, or simply relax and take in the atmosphere that is Shakespeare's Stratford. William Shakespeare's significance to the town can be found in his families' houses on the streets of town. The blend of architecture from the original medieval town grid structure to the present day is both diverse and eclectic. We’ll return to the hotel late this afternoon for a little time to freshen up before our gala Farewell Dinner. B, D

Tuesday, March 11 ~ Today we must say goodbye and depart for home with wonderful memories. Private motorcoach to Birmingham airport for our departures to the U.S., arriving home the same day.
