If you enjoy competitive dance, you have no doubt heard of Blackpool, England, the host for 84 years of what many believe is the most prestigious dance competition in the world. Based on the reviews from our 2008 travelers the competition is better than you can imagine! In May 2008, 37 avid dancers and dance fans from all around the world traveled with Huron Tours & Travel to watch the competition and it was dance nirvana.
More than 1,600 couples representing 62 countries compete in 12 events, dancing to a 12 piece live orchestra from 2pm until 1am in the magnificent Winter Garden ballrooms. Back at our hotel, the Imperial, visit all the vendors and shop to your heart’s content for custom dresses, ballroom shoes and accessories to make you stand out on the dance floor.
This trip is much less expensive than you might believe considering all that is included. If you are passionate about ballroom dancing this trip is for you, don’t delay as this completely organized trip is sure to sell out early!
~ Depart from Chicago or New York on our included airfare (call for pricing from your city). Flights depart late afternoon or evening for Manchester, England. D, B (in flight)
~ Arrive Manchester Airport and transfer by private motorcoach to Blackpool and our 5-star Imperial Hotel. On the way we’ll stop at historic Huntley’s farm to stretch our legs and enjoy a delicious farm fresh breakfast. After check-in and a chance to relax at the hotel, we’ll gather for a cocktail and welcome dinner in the lovely Palm Court Restaurant in the hotel. D
~ In 2008, this was a favorite day for our travelers. After a full English breakfast at the hotel, join your fellow travelers for a fun dance lesson with one of Blackpool’s local dance instructors. Learn the basics of several dances while getting to know your travel companions. After a break to freshen up we continue on to the gorgeous Tower ballroom for high tea and more dancing. Or, stop at Winter Gardens for the Amateur Latin and under 21 Ballroom competition (tickets just $50 per person). B,T
~ Today is the fantastic Professional Latin Competition but first we repeat one of the highlights from past years, a private lecture from a past British champion. Our travelers love his behind the scenes stories, mini history lesson and the chance to ask questions. Some of last year’s travelers even booked private dance lessons! B
~ Enjoy these days at Winter Gardens, easily reached by local tram (passes included). Thursday is Amateur Ballroom followed by Professional Ballroom on Friday. Dancing lasts until 1am and you’ll have an opportunity to dance, if you choose, during open dance sessions. Feel free to come and go as you desire. There are many budget to gourmet restaurants within walking distance of Winter Gardens to enjoy. B
~ A completely free day to enjoy the many shops in Blackpool, head to the beach and walk the three piers overflowing with “Atlantic city boardwalk” festivities, or head out of town on the train to Liverpool or Chester for the day. This evening we celebrate our week together with an elegant Farewell Dinner followed by one final chance to dance back at the Imperial. B,D
~ Depart Blackpool by private motorcoach to the Manchester Airport for our flights back to reality. B
